North Carolina: Yesterday, Governor Beverly Perdue appointed Cressie Thigpen to the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He is the successor to James Wynn, who was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit earlier in August. Thigpen will fill the remainder of Wynn's unexpired term, which ends in December 2010. He has already stated that he will file his candidacy for the seat in the November general election.[1]

Of the appointment Governor Perdue said, "Judge Thigpen is extraordinarily well qualified for the appeals court. The high marks he has earned as a trial judge are a reflection of his legal skills, experience and his commitment to the law and public service."[1]

In 1976, he helped found the firm Thigpen Blue & Stephens , where he practiced until his appointment as a Special Superior Court Judge in 2008. During his time at the firm, he also served as president of the North Carolina State Bar.[2][1]
