Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Dixon's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Criminal Justice Reform: There needs to be federal legislation to “ban the box” that prevents people with criminal histories from gaining meaningful employment.
  • Gun Violence Prevention: Brady Background Checks need to be expanded to cover all gun sales regardless of where they occur and whom they are between. This means closing the “gun show loophole" that currently allows online and low volume sellers to sell guns legally without running a background check on the buyer.
  • Labor: America needs to protect collective bargaining power and promote equal pay for equal work, including overtime.
  • Voting Rights: Voting rights need to be protected from attack. Voting is a constitutional right that has been too easily denied to too many Americans . Congress needs to step in to make sure states are not curtailing voting rights, or making it hard for particular subsets of society to vote.
  • Education: All Americans are entitled to a quality education that prepares them to become self-supporting citizens, and this includes college.
