Thomas G. McCarthy is a former Minnesota First Judicial District judge for Sibley County, Minnesota. He was appointed to this position on February 12, 1988, and was re-elected in 1990, 1996, 2002 and 2008. He retired on July 10, 2014. McCarthy became a statewide senior judge on July 1, 2015, for a term that expired on June 30, 2017.

Education

McCarthy received his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas in 1971 and his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 1974.

Career

McCarthy began his legal career in 1974 as a Winthrop City attorney. He worked in this capacity until 1987. He also worked as a private practice lawyer from 1974 to 1988 and a Sibley County attorney from 1979 to 1988.
