Recall proponents needed to collect 300 valid signatures in order for the recall to go to an election. By the time the recall effort got started, it was too late to get the recall on the general election ballot on November 8, 2016. A special election needed to be called.[1] The county clerk approved the signatures for the recall on November 1, 2016. The special election occurred on January 10, 2017.[3]
