Tom has lived in the La Grange – La Grange Park community his entire life. There with his college sweetheart, Mary Lou Hurley, they have raised three sons and now have grandchildren who also live in the area. Tom grew up in this community and chose to stay here. He has been a La Grange Park homeowner for almost 50 years and is committed to his community. The motto of Lions Clubs is “We Serve”. Tom has decades of service as a member of the Brookfield-LaGrange Park Lions Club and has served as a La Grange Park Plan Commissioner and Trustee on the Village Board. He sees representing the 8th District as a way to continue his service to our communities. Tom is retired after a career in law enforcement as a financial crimes investigator. While working, Tom served as president of his Fraternal Order of Police lodge and as secretary of his labor union.
  • I want a place where our police are supported and criminals are held accountable. Crime has gotten out of control in Illinois and the Democrats in Springfield seem to just want to add fuel to the fire. They passed the so-called S.A.F.E.-T. Act which is a "de facto defund the police bill" because of the additional rules and equipment requirements it places on law enforcement. These requirements, while not directly defunding the police, place exorbitant, un-warranted, and possibly debilitating burdens on law enforcement. This law will also eliminate cash bail in Illinois as of the first of the year. Critics say that in itself will lead to more criminals out in the general public. Convicted criminals out on electronic monitoring get credit for
  • Illinois property taxes are already the second-highest in the nation and a major reason taxpayers are fleeing to lower-tax states. Businesses flee Illinois. Caterpillar is the latest. Per S.E.C. filings, it's five top executives who are now moving to Texas (which has no state income tax) had total compensation last year of $32,672,959 on which Illinois income tax would be about $1,600,000. Illinois politicians are scaring away investment and jobs and Illinoisians are paying the literal price because Democratic politicians refuse to lower taxes. I am not on board with that.
  • Time and time again Democrats promise to fix our education system, but all they do is throw money (that we don't have) at the problem. We need to work on actual education reform — promoting school choice, curriculum reform, and keeping kids in school is a start. We need to think of new solutions. We need to restore the rights of parents to determine the education that is proper for their children. One important thing we have learned from the pandemic is that schools have their own agendas when it comes to teaching your children. We must pass a parental bill of rights that returns parental authority to the parents who know their children best. Unfortunately, La Shawn K. Ford wants to deprive your children of a well-rounded education
Immediately repealing the falsely called SAFE-T Act which end cash bond for criminals and has numerous other provisions that will cause chaos in the streets and make it virtually impossible to protect us.
Becoming the primary caregiver for my wife when she developed disorders severely limiting both her speech and mobility.
