Goethals was previously a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in Orange County, California.[3] He was appointed to the court by former Governor Gray Davis on December 28, 2002, and was sworn into office on January 3, 2003.[4] Goethals retired from the court on March 31, 2025.[5]

Education

Goethals received his undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University in 1974 and his J.D. degree from the Loyola Law School in 1977.[4]
