Born and raised in Southside Virginia, I have lived in Virginia’s fifth congressional district nearly my entire life. Growing up in South Hill, my father was a small business owner and my mother taught at Park View Middle School. As a child, I loved visiting my grandparents’ farm in Mecklenburg County. In high school, I pulled tobacco leaves in the summer and was elected a state officer in the Future Farmers of America. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in economics from the University of Virginia, I have spent most of my career in agriculture and land management in Albemarle County. I have raised cows, pigs, and chickens, and managed vineyards and orchards in Central Virginia. My wife Calder and I have two daughters in elementary school.
  • I will champion sound economic policy, which includes controlling inflation, promoting the creation of good jobs, balancing the federal budget, and paying down our national debt.
  • I will promote a steady, balanced approach to improving our education system. We should value all aspects of schools and work to build trust between parents, teachers, students, and administrators.
  • I will seek to heal some of the divisiveness in our country by listening to Republicans and independents as well as Democrats, by not judging people, and by thinking independently on behalf of my constituents.
A strong, healthy economy benefits all Americans. I will fight hard for fiscal responsibility at the federal level and for policies that promote the creations of good jobs.
