Thomas McTavish
Thomas McTavish is the former Michigan Auditor General. He assumed office in 1989 and served until his retirement in 2014.[1]
Biography
McTavish is a retired captain in the U.S. Navy. He served as an associate lecturer for 16 years at Pennsylvania State University and local community colleges teaching business courses. He worked as an audit manager at a CPA firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania prior to his entrance into politics. He is a member of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and National State Auditors Association (NSAA).[2]

Political career
Michigan Auditor General (1989 - 2014)
McTavish was first appointed by the Michigan State Legislature as Michigan Auditor General in 1989.[2] McTavish worked with the legislature to increase the efficacy of the auditor position in Michigan. For his work, McTavish was awarded the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) "Outstanding CPA in Government" award in 2009. He retired from the office in 2014.[1][3]
