Thomas Mills
Thomas Mills was a 2016 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 8th Congressional District of North Carolina.[1]
Biography
Mills is the founder and publisher of Politics NC, a blog focusing on North Carolina politics.[2] He founded the blog in April 2013.[3] Prior to founding Politics NC, he was a Democratic political and public affairs consultant.[3][4]
Career
Thomas Mills was president of Old North State Strategies from 1997 to 2002, and was principal and vice-president with The Campaign Network from 2002 to 2008.[5] In 2004, he was part of the direct mail team for the Kerry/Edwards campaign as well as for the Democratic National Committee in New Hampshire.[3] From 2008 to 2009, he was president of Thomas Mills Communications, which provided direct mail and strategic communications to organizations and political clients. He was a partner with Bates & Mills Consulting from 2010 to 2013.[5]
Politics NC
In April 2013, Thomas Mills launched Politics NC, a blog focusing on North Carolina politics.[2] He has contributed commentary to The Atlantic magazine, and has been quoted in various national and North Carolina media outlets including the Huffington Post, Raleigh News & Observer and the Charlotte Observer.[6][7][8][9][10]
Elections
2016
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Richard Hudson (R) defeated Tim D'Annunzio in the Republican primary. Hudson defeated Thomas Mills, the only Democratic candidate to file, in the general election. The primary election took place on June 7, 2016. The general election took place on November 8, 2016.[11]
