Thomas P. Phelan
Thomas P. Phelan is a former justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. He was first elected to the court in 1996. He was re-elected on Nov. 3, 2009.[1][2] Phelan passed away on February 12, 2015, after a fight with cancer.[3]
Education
Judge Phelan received his B.A. degree from Stony Brook University in 1967 and his J.D. degree from New York Law School in 1971.[4]
Career
Following law school, Phelan worked as a Nassau County Assistant District Attorney until 1974. From 1974 to 1984, he worked as a law clerk and a Nassau County Court Judge. After this, he worked as a private practice lawyer until 1991, when he was appointed to the Nassau County District Court. He joined the Supreme Court in 1996.[1][5]
2009 election
Phelan was re-elected to the court in 2009.[6]
