Thomas Collier Platt, Jr. was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He first joined the court on March 8, 1974, and served on the court until his death on March 4, 2017.[1]

Education

Platt earned his B.A. and LL.B. from Yale University in 1947 and 1950, respectively.[1]

Military career

Platt served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1943 to 1946.[1]

Judicial career

Platt was nominated by President Richard Nixon on January 31, 1974, to a seat vacated by George Rosling; he was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 1974, and he received his commission on March 8, 1974. From 1988 to 1995, he served as the chief judge. He elected to take senior status beginning on February 1, 2001, and served as a senior judge until his death on March 4, 2017. Platt was succeeded in this position by Judge Sandra Feuerstein.[1]
