Thomas Sawyer (Ohio)
Thomas 'Tom' C. Sawyer (b. August 15, 1945) is a former Democratic member of the Ohio State Senate, representing District 28 from 2007 to 2016. He was first appointed to the chamber in February 2007.
Sawyer did not seek re-election to the Ohio State Senate in 2016 because he was term-limited.
Sawyer served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1977 to 1983, served as the mayor of Akron from 1984 to 1986 and represented District 14 in the United States House of Representatives from 1987 to 2003. He was also a member of the Ohio State School Board in 2007.[1]
Biography
Sawyer earned his B.A. and his M.A. from the University of Akron. His professional experience includes working as a personnel administrator for the Cuyahoga School for Boys and as a legislative analyst for the Ohio Public Utilities Commission.[1]

Sawyer won re-election in the 2012 election for Ohio Senate, District 28. Sawyer was unopposed in the March 6 Democratic primary election and defeated Robert G. Roush (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6]
