Thomas J. Shields is a recalled magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. He was appointed to this court on June 9, 2000.[1] Shields retired from the court on February 12, 2014, and has served as a recalled federal magistrate since his retirement from active service.[2][3]

Education

Shields earned his B.A. from the College of William & Mary and his J.D. from Indiana University.[4]

Professional career

Prior to becoming a magistrate judge, Shields spent his career in private practice from 1974 to 2000. He served as a part-time magistrate judge from 1997 until his appointment as a full-time magistrate judge in 2000.[4]

Judicial career

Southern District of Iowa

Thomas Shields started with the court as a part-time federal magistrate judge in 1997. In 2000, Shields was appointed to a full-time position. He served as an active magistrate on the court until 2014 when he retired. Her served today as a recalled federal magistrate judge.[2][3]
