Recall reports

An attempt to recall Kalamazoo County, Michigan treasurer Thomas Whitener was initiated in 2023. A petition for recall was submitted by Paul Foust and was rejected by the Michigan Board of State Canvassers on February 1, 2023. The board rejected the recall petition on the grounds that the petition did not sufficiently explain why Whitener's conduct merited recall. The Board of State Canvassers met on March 3, 2023, to consider two additional recall petitions against Whitener submitted by Foust. Both petitions were rejected by the state board.[1][2][3]

Recall supporters

Recall supporters argued that Whitener has failed to invest millions of dollars as treasurer, was responsible for a backlog of unprocessed receipts, and failed to present investment reports to the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.[1][4]

Recall opponents

As of March 3, 2023, Ballotpedia has not identified a response to the recall effort from Thomas Whitener.
