Four candidates apply to replace former judge William D. Young

Tennessee: Since the retirement of Blount County Circuit Court Judge William Dale Young (Tennessee), four candidates have applied to fill his position. The candidate are Assistant U.S. Attorney General Steve Cook, a federal prosecutor who captained a gun crime Justice Department initiative; Assistant District Attorney General Tammy M. Harrington, a state prosecutor in Blount County; attorney Robert N. Goddard of the Goddard and Gamble law firm; and attorney Lynn C. Peterson of the Lewis, King, Krieg and Waldrop law firm. The Judicial Nominating Commission will send its top three picks to the Governor of the state, Bill Haslam, who then must hold a public hearing on March 8 and select one to appoint.[1]

Update

On Tuesday, March 8, the Judicial Nominating Commission conducted a series of interviews and selected three finalists to submit to Governor Bill Haslam, of which, he will select one to replace former judge Young. The three names submitted were those of Steve Cook, Tammy M. Harrington, and Lynn C. Peterson. A commission spokesperson has said that the governor is under no time restrictions for appointing a new judge.[2]
