New York: Three judges were sworn in on January 10, 2011: Norman Janowitz, Daniel Palmieri and Edward McCarty III. Janowitz and Palmieri joined the Nassau County Supreme Court and McCarty joined the Surrogate's Court. They were all elected to these positions in the recent November general election.

Janowitz previously worked as a prosecutor in East Rockaway and, for 11 years, as a Nassau County District Court judge in matrimonial part. He stated, "It is indeed an honor and a privilege to assume the prestigious position of a justice of the Supreme Court as it represents a milestone in my judicial career."

Palmieri, who has worked as a real estate lawyer, addressed the crowd at the induction ceremony, saying, "For my part, I will strive to justify your beliefs in my abilities and your respect for the institution of justice as we know it to be."

McCarty has worked as an attorney, prosecutor, teacher and judge. He is also retired colonel of the Army's Judge Advocate General (J.A.G.) corps. He announced his plan to start a surrogate initiative for adult autism and the mentally impaired.[1]
