Ankley ran for election to the Kalamazoo County Probate Court.
General: She defeated Namita Sharma in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 55.9 percent of the vote. [1]

Reassignment to district court

Although Ankley ran for retiring Judge Patricia N. Conlon's position on the probate court, she was reassigned to the 8th District Court instead. The Kalamazoo County Executive Judicial Council decided to move district court Judge Julie K. Phillips to the opening in the probate court. Ankley took over Phillip's duties at the district court. The announcement was made in a news release on July 14, 2014, after the deadline for candidates to file for the election had passed.

Ankley responded to the decision:

I think I'm probably better suited (in family court) given my experience as a referee here ... but that having been said, we just change gears a little bit, maybe tweak some things. But I can be a judge anywhere.[3][4]

Education

Ankley received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 2001 and her J.D. degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1994.[5]

Career

Before her election to the court, Ankley served as a family court attorney-referee for the 9th Circuit Court for ten years.[3][6]
