Campaign website

Burks' campaign website stated the following:

PLATFORM

The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office will be an office with public service as the cornerstone, not politics. It will build safer communities by pursuing justice with fairness and integrity, encouraging crime prevention through community engagement and partnerships, empowering second chances by utilizing proven diversion programs and supporting victims of crime.

LET'S GET SERIOUS ABOUT SAFETY:

  • Prosecuting crimes, especially violent and predatory crimes, while upholding the laws that respect every citizen’s rights.

  • Protecting public safety and Tarrant County taxpayers by ensuring the county and its elected officials receive sound legal advice — preventing costly civil lawsuits and safeguarding public funds.

  • Building safe communities using proactive measures to prevent recidivism and criminal conduct before it happens through agency and community collaboration.

  • Utilizing diversion programs, especially for our youth, that build and restore lives to create stronger and safer communities.

  • Building an experienced team of prosecutors who pursue justice with discernment, knowing that their ethical duty to seek justice transcends the pursuit of a conviction.

  • Partnering with the community to address the challenges of homelessness, mental health, and addiction — and their impact on crime and public safety.

  • Fostering trust and safer neighborhoods by building stronger relationships with law enforcement.

  • Partnering with state, local and federal organizations to expand initiatives that help individuals remove eligible criminal records.

Expand all | Collapse all

I have dedicated my entire career to public service. As an Assistant District Attorney since 1997 who promoted to the level of Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, I bring over 20 years of experience as a prosecutor, having prosecuted hundreds of cases, met with even more victims of crime, and worked closely with law enforcement agencies.
  • Unmatched experience tempered with integrity and fairness
  • Leadership - a leader with a clear vision who will create and nurture other leaders.
  • A unifier who can facilitate positive relations between the community and law enforcement

My parents are my heroes. They taught all six of their children the importance of education, the value of a strong work ethic, and an appreciation to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
This office requires honesty, integrity, fairness, a sense of justice, dignity and respect toward others and a 360 degree leader mentality.
A criminal justice system that is fair and works fairly for every citizen.
