In a Facebook post, Cossey said the following regarding the recall effort:[5]
“ |
Also, to comment on the more recent development in city politics, a petition has been submitted to place a recall on the ballot to remove me from my council seat. I believe that, if certified, this would place the proposition on the ballot in November. At that time, voters in Ward 5 will be asked to vote 'Yes' or 'No' on the recall. Given that, in an almost 2-to-1 vote, the residents of our ward ousted the incumbent and voted for change, it is my hope that they will again voice their desire for accountability and integrity in city government. If, however, a majority of the voters choose to vote me out, then I would vacate the seat knowing that I have helped make a positive difference in this town. No fight for real and substantial change is easy, and it never happens without upsetting some people – especially people who had a vested interest in the prior system things operated under. Some people driving the recall may also be concerned about what may yet come to light. I will continue to exercise my council position and vote to fight for the rights of the people in our town to have a fair and honest government so long as I remain in the seat. [6] |
