I am a daughter, sister, wife, mom, and teacher. I was born in Evansville, IN and am a product of the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation. I have studied religion, English, mathematics, and education. I use those skills to build relationships with people, pay attention to details, and then put those relationships and details together to promote solutions to the problems we are facing in society. I care about others and am an advocate for those who can not advocate for themselves. I have lived in Martinsville, IN, for the past 12 years. District 60 is my home, and I want to work for every person in this district and state to thrive!
  • I will advocate for better educational resources in order to provide equitable opportunities for every child born in Indiana.
  • I will advocate for access to affordable healthcare for everyone no matter his/her employment status and for transparency in healthcare costs.
  • I will advocate for living-wage job opportunities by increasing connections between communities and trade schools and increasing the minimum wage.
I am personally passionate about leveling the playing field for all citizens. Every person in Indiana should have the same opportunities to succeed no matter his/her/their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, physical or mental disability, or age. We can provide those opportunities by listening to the struggles of Hoosiers and finding solutions. When we ALL have the basics for survival, then we can truly thrive!

I will focus on education, health care, and job opportunities to create that level playing field.
I have wonderful parents. My parents have worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for my sisters and me. My dad served in the military to provide income for the family and educational opportunities for himself. He and my mom have worked in a number of fields to provide food, a stable home life, healthcare, a quality public school education, extra-curricular participation, and post-secondary opportunities for us. They love us and encourage us to follow our passions and believe in ourselves. I am incredibly fortunate to have this support system.

As a teacher, I have learned that not all children are as fortunate as I have been. I would like to work toward providing for others those things that my parents have provided for me. With better policies in place, we can provide every person living in Indiana with those things that not all parents can provide for their children.

By providing these resources, we can work to break the cycle of poverty that affects so many Hoosiers. Then, when Hoosiers are no longer fighting to merely survive, they can thrive!
I have both academic and interpersonal skills that would make me a successful officeholder.

I have a strong work ethic with both attention to detail and organizational skills. I have experience writing and maintaining budgets according to federal and state guidelines and research and writing. Additionally, in every job I have held, I have worked to build rapport and work well with the people around me.
The core responsibilities for an elected leader are respect, communication, and service. As a representative of the district where I live, I respect my fellow citizens. I respect their values and their commitments to the community that I also serve. I will also work to gain their respect as both a neighbor and a leader. That mutual respect is what will allow us to work together.

Communication is also a critical responsibility of elected leaders. I am responsible for communicating the work that is happening at the state house to my district, and I am responsible for communicating (and listening!) with my district about its needs.

Finally, service is the greatest responsibility for an elected leader. Too often, elected representatives forget that their role is to represent the PEOPLE of their district and not the PARTY they are a member of. I want to serve my district's citizens as an advocate for them and their needs.
My favorite book is Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver. This has been my favorite book since I read it my senior year of high school. In this book, Kingsolver weaves together three stories of love and loss, both between generations and siblings/love interests. Kingsolver also says a lot about taking care of the earth. The primary theme of this novel (in my opinion) is that we not only need to take seriously our role in repairing the damage that has been done to both our relationships and the earth, but we also need to carefully work to prevent damage in the future.
Relationships are the key to success in every profession. As a teacher, I work to build relationships with my students in the classroom, my fellow teachers, and the leaders both in the building and at the district. These relationships lead to stronger collaboration and better problem solving. As a legislator, I need relationships with other legislators both inside my party and across the aisle. We need to work together to build a better future for all Hoosiers.
