Nelson's campaign website stated the following:
THE ISSUES
Giving Every Texas Student An Excellent Education
Every Texas student deserves an education that prepares them for success whether their future is in college, trade school, the military, or the workforce. I will work to move beyond a one-size-fits-all test and instead focus on real results that measure growth, strengthen core skills, and ensure our schools equip young Texans to thrive in life after graduation.
Empowering Parents and Increasing Transparency
Parents are the first and most important educators of their children, and schools must honor that role. I will fight to ensure families know exactly what is being taught in the classroom, how tax dollars are being spent, and how decisions are being made at the state level. Transparency builds trust, and empowering parents means giving them a real voice in their child’s education. By strengthening accountability and opening up the process, we can restore trust in our education system and ensure that schools partner with parents – never work around them.
Removing Liberal Indoctrination and Returning to the Basics
Our classrooms should never be indoctrination camps of liberal ideology. Critical Race Theory, gender ideology, and anti-American narratives have no place in Texas schools. I will fight to strip out this liberal indoctrination and make sure our children are taught the fundamentals: reading, writing, math, science, and history that honors our nation’s values. By returning to the basics, we can restore excellence in education and ensure that every Texas student grows up prepared, confident, and proud of the country they call home.
Championing Fiscal Responsibility
Every tax dollar entrusted to our schools belongs to the hardworking families of Texas, and it must be treated with respect. I will fight wasteful spending, demand accountability, and ensure that resources go directly into the classroom where they make the greatest impact for students. By prioritizing essentials and cutting bureaucracy, we can deliver excellent education while protecting taxpayers and restoring trust in how our schools are managed.
