My father, a WWII Combat Marine Corps veteran. He was the kindest and strongest person I even knew. His dedication his country was admirable.[3]

The core responsibility of the Sheriff is to provide County-wide leadership in public safety and law enforcement.[3]

He did his job, stayed true to his values, and did everything he could to make this a safer place to live.[3]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
The assassination of President John F. Kennedy occurred just before my 6th birthday. I couldn't understand how we could be safe if the President could be murdered. This was when I began to think I would join the military when I grew up.[3]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was a counselor at a camp for the disabled during the summers between 9th-11th grades.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Memorial day because it celebrates American heroes.[3]
What is your favorite book? Why?
A Rumor of War. Philip Caputo. Tells the story of the tragedy of war and the things war does to men.[3]
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
Obiwan Kenobi.[3]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My wife.[3]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
I was not able to finish my education when I was young. Completing my graduate degree at age 50 was a major achievement.[3]
What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the local government?
The office of Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in Clark County and the head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.[3]
Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?
Because the Las Vegas Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Department merged in 1973, the Clark County Sheriff is a member of the National Sheriff's Association and the Major Cities Chiefs Association.[3]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?
Yes.[3]
What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?
Prior military leadership and police officer experience.[3]
