Tim Burkhart retired after 46 years with Six Flags where he most recently held the position of Corporate Vice President- Maintenance and Construction and oversaw the Maintenance and Construction functions for all 26 Six Flags parks in North America.

Tim is a graduate of Wm. S. Hart High School in Newhall Ca., attended College of the Canyons, and graduated from California State University, Northridge. He holds Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees, as well as numerous technical certifications. Tim lives in the City of Santa Clarita with his wife Debbie. He is an avid cyclist and a board member of the Santa Clarita Valley Trail Users, he currently sits on the Executive Board of the Valley Industry Association and the Board of Friends of Hart Park and Museum. He has served as President of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Valley Industry Association and was a founding member and Executive Committee member of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation. Additionally, he was member of the Santa Clarita Anti-Gang Task Force, the Santa Clarita Sheriff Department Citizens Advisory Committee and has served on boards and has Chaired numerous community nonprofits.

He is currently serving his fourth term as Chair of the Santa Clarita Planning Commission, where he has served 23 years as the appointee of four different Councilmembers, working with City Staff and the community to shape prosperous economic growth and community development in the City.
  • Public Safety. This issue resonates with every resident of the city. I have the experience and the support of law enforcement through my endorsement by the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs to make public safety a key deliverable to the community
  • Economic development. I have spent decades working on the economic development of this city as a Planning Commissioner, as an advocate for business large and small, and through my leadership roles in the SCV Chamber of Commerce, Valley Industry Association and the SCV Economic Development Corporation
  • Quality of life. I have a deep, practical understanding of how public safety and economic development work hand in hand to promote the high quality of life we enjoy in Santa Clarita.
Local control is my passion in public policy. We formed this city 38 years ago to take control of our destiny from Los Angeles County, and now it is threatened again by the State of California continuing to legislatively take land use control away from local communities, and managing it in Sacramento.
I believe that I have demonstrated true leadership across many disciplines for my entire career. Whether it was in business where I managed thousands of employees, leading large organizations such as the SCV Chamber, Valley Industry Association, or small civic groups such as the SCV Trail Users or Friends of Hart Park, I have a proven record of leadership, stewardship, and results.
I believe that a well rounded background in business, government and philanthropic affairs makes for an exceptionally well qualified office holder. Representing the community requires a breadth of experience, leadership and skills that are developed from practical use and results.
Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, BizFed PAC, Valley Industry Association, SCV Chamber of Commerce, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Mayor Cameron Smyth, Councilmember Laurene Weste, Councilmember Jason Gibbs, Councilmember Marsha McLean, Former Assemblyperson Suzette Valladares, former Supervisor Mike Antonovich and a long list of Community leaders and residents.
Financial transparency and accountability are fundamental management concepts that I am intimately familiar with through my business career. The City of Santa Clarita has a very conservative approach to budget and spending, and as a result is one to the highest rated financial operations in unicipal government. My approach will be to continue this approach, with no consideration for new business tax, or erosion of Proposition 13 tax protections.
