Though born in the United States, I grew up overseas from age three to 19. My dad was a seminary professor in Brazil and my mom the school nurse. To this day, they continue to help people with education and healthcare.

As the oldest of four siblings, I had the responsibility of going before them in school, sports, and summer jobs. It was important for me to work hard and make a good impression so they could follow after me and do even better.

For example, before college, I worked at a car factory for eight months. It was a good experience and my siblings each worked at the same factory before they went to college.

Having transferred credits from a Brazilian school, I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Global Economics & International Business from Cedarville University.

In August 2009, I received my commission from Officer Candidate School (Newport, RI) and chose Forward Deployed Naval Forces, Japan. As we fulfilled our mission across the Pacific, I led 30 sailors in two departments.

From 2012 to 2013, I completed AEGIS training in Dahlgren, VA, and worked as Assistant Certification Officer in Norfolk, VA. In September 2013, I separated honorably from active duty.

In the Navy Reserve force, I have served in leadership and command positions and deployed overseas twice. I have completed three graduate degrees including the Master of International Public Policy (MIPP) from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

One of my greatest joys was to marry my best friend in 2016. Through thick and thin, we have stuck together and grown closer. We have committed to love and to cherish each other 'til death do us part.'

I have long wanted to serve my local community in public office. My wife and I are eager to continue our families' legacies of service. It would be an honor to serve as your representative.

To serve one's constituents with honesty and integrity. To listen, earn trust, and build relationships with people while working to ensure their constitutional freedoms.

Veteran, husband, and father. A proven leader with public and private sector experience.

As the firstborn son of a teacher (dad) and registered nurse (mom), I saw how education and healthcare played big roles in my family. I was born in Texas but grew up in Brazil from age 3-19. My parents still live in Brazil and continue to help people with education and healthcare.

After graduating magna cum laude from Cedarville University, I served as a U.S. Navy officer in Asia and Virginia. I separated honorably from active duty in 2013 and have deployed twice overseas as a Reserve officer. Today, I work as a third-party contractor and command a 60-sailor unit in the Navy Reserve.

My family and I live in Woodbridge, Virginia. My wife is an immigrant with a green card. She has a medical degree from Brazil and worked as a doctor in the U.K. We cannot wait until she is an American citizen.

We love this area. Northern Virginia is our home. We want our kids to flourish and grow here in safety and tranquility.

As I run for delegate, I hope to rekindle the notion that politicians are public servants. I cannot do it alone. It is a team, community, and district effort.

  • Pro-Faith. As a man of faith, I know how crucial it is for our 1st Amendment rights to be honored and protected. Freedoms of religion, speech, press, and peaceable assembly are cornerstones of our Constitution and nation. As your delegate, it would be my honor and duty to uphold the U.S. and Virginia Constitutions.
  • Pro-Family. In recent years, my wife and I were given two blessings: a boy and a girl. It has been incredible to see their similarities and differences. As their father, I know it is my job to protect and nurture them. My wife does the same. In our district, we also have many similarities and differences. Our differences can sometimes lead to discrimination. There is no place for discrimination in my book. I believe all people are created equally in God’s image and, because of this, have eternal dignity and worth. As your delegate, I will fight for all Virginians to be treated with equal dignity and respect.
  • Pro-Freedom. “Give me liberty, or give me death!” – Patrick Henry. Virginia is no stranger to struggle—some of it glorious; some of it infamous. What encourages me about Virginia is its ability to change when wrong. We must continue to call out violence, white supremacy, racism, and discrimination. We need to hold each other accountable and remember that individual freedom is always accompanied by personal responsibility. As your delegate, I will work to preserve our shared freedoms and promote personal responsibility.
I am passionate about a free market economy and a foundation of freedom on which business can grow.

When I think of business, I think of a robust economy. A robust economy is sustained by property rights and a secure environment for mutually beneficial transactions. In a free society, there is almost always a legal and resourceful way to not take no for an answer.

In free societies, governments protect people instead of preying upon them. Effective governments enforce laws that allow hiring and firing based on merit. Effective governments do not raise taxes year after year but set an example of fiscal responsibility. They earn the trust of their constituents and facilitate entry for entrepreneurs.

I am equally passionate about education and healthcare. In my family, there are two doctors, three nurses, and seven medical professionals. Those qualifications required a lot of education. My family is living proof that multiple degrees can be achieved without going into debilitating debt. It takes planning, forethought, and hard work. In a free society, that is possible.

Check out my website timcoxforvirginia.com to see how I believe our education and healthcare systems could be even better.
I look up to my dad, my grandfathers, and some military mentors. I also admire my mom, my wife, and my grandmothers. I am so thankful for the men and women who have invested in my life and loved me unconditionally.

I would like to follow the example of William Wilberforce. Despite incredible odds, he fought for what was right to his dying breath. I also admire George Washington who willfully gave up power despite popularity.
Integrity and a strong work ethic; an ability to empathize and prioritize; compassion coupled with conviction; a desire to find common ground and cooperate for the mutual edification of our state and district.
To be of service to the people of District 51 for their well-being and safety. To listen, earn trust, and build relationships with my constituents while seeking to improve our district.
A public servant of the people, by the people, and for the people
I remember 9/11. I was a teenager in Brazil and had just gone on recess. Someone told my parents to turn on the TV. We watched in shock and horror throughout the day. It was one of those moments that helped to solidify my resolve to serve in the military.
As a teenager, my first job was as a beekeeper. I read a sign in a Brazilian shop that said, "You can make a lot of money selling honey." Sure enough, it was true. I bought four hives and partnered with a senior beekeeper to collect our honey harvests twice a year. My family helped me to clean and purify the honey and get it ready to sell in jars. For five years, I learned some of the intricacies of the apiculture business. I used the proceeds to go on humanitarian trips throughout Brazil, to the Amazon jungle, and to Romania, Moldova, Macedonia, and Greece.
“Please Mr. Postman”

I like the Marvelettes edition but am most familiar with The Carpenters version.
Beneficial? Yes. Required? No. Citizen legislators are meant to have life experience outside of politics. Constituents need representatives in Richmond who understand what it means to have a real job, to put food on the table, to educate their children, to drive in Virginia traffic, to pay Virginia taxes, etc.
Yes. Lasting legislation is frequently passed with strong bipartisan support.
A fair and independent process that is agnostic of historical voting patterns and concentrations.
