Tim James Dwyer was a judge for the Shelby County General Sessions Court, Division 8 in Tennessee. He was based in Memphis and served in the Criminal Division on the Drug Court. He was elected to the court in 1984 at the age of 30 and was the youngest judge in the state at that time. Dwyer founded the Drug Court in 1997.[1][2][3] Dwyer was re-elected on August 7, 2014, for an eight-year term that expired in 2022.[4]

Dwyer ran for re-election to the Shelby County General Sessions Court.
General: He defeated J. Nathan Toney in the general election on August 7, 2014, receiving 74.6 percent of the vote.[4][5]

Education

Dwyer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis in 1976 and his J.D. from the Cecil C. Humphrey's School of Law in 1980.[3]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Dwyer worked as an assistant district attorney general in Shelby County and as a private practice lawyer with the law firm of Owens and McManus.[3]
