Born and raised in MN.

Moved to Mesa in 1989 Retail manager for major retailers for 18 years, Store Manager for 10 of the 18 years. Owned and operated a Dairy Queen for 2 years in Mesa. Retired from the City of Mesa after 26+ years, as the Assistant Business Services Department Director. Oversaw 6 divisions with 65+ staff/supervisors reporting to me. We assisted Mesa residents and businesses with utility turn on/turn off’s, credit needs, billing inquiries, all City mail in payments, 30 person call center, all City licensing, and licensing enforcement. Extensive experience working with Citizens and Business Owners with their utility services, billing concerns, utility rates and cost analysis, licensing needs, and navigating City departments to find solutions to resident concerns/inquiries. Worked with virtually all levels of staff within City departments, Department Directors, City Council Members, Mayors, and Upper City Management. Well versed in City Code, wrote City Code, interpreted City Code, worked closely with Police and Fire/Medical as well as the City Attorney’s Office on various projects and community concerns.

What sets me aside from the other candidates? I will hit the ground running. I know where to look for opportunities to REALLOCATE and REDUCE. I know what questions to ask and who to ask to get the results we want to achieve. We will REDUCE expenses. I am running for office to be YOUR voice and VOTE your wishes, not mine. LISTEN. EVALUATE. ACT.
  • Work with the Police and Fire/Medical departments to ensure they have the resources needed to provide the services we all depend on, with emphasis on hiring more patrol officers and firefighters/medical personnel. SCRUTINIZE spending and REALLOCATE existing funds to greatly reduce the need for utility transfers to the General Fund. REDUCE utility bills!!!
  • LISTEN to my constituents, promote conversation and feedback by creating an interactive website that lists current projects the Council is working on, project costs, impact on each mesa citizen if the project is paid for bonds, etc. LISTEN and make myself available to meet with residents, engage in current events, LISTEN to YOUR priorities, concerns, and possible solutions. VOTE YOUR wishes, not mine.
  • Work with our non-profits, neighboring cities, my fellow Councilmembers and Mayor to increase our efforts to tackle the homeless issue. Find better solutions through non-profits and community groups to get the homeless out of their situation and back to work and living in their own residence.
Fiscal Responsibility.

SCRUTINIZE. REALLOCATE. REDUCE.
I will take a good look at the City budget and look for ways to better utilize the funds we have. There are line items that can be reduced and other areas that need more funding/resources. There are areas that we can be more assertive to collect the funds the City is owed.

Transparency.
I will work diligently to ensure my constituents know what I am working on as well as the priorities the Council is working on. I will be available through my website, email, phone and attending more neighborhood activities,

Technology and Innovation.

This is one area I know we can greatly improve in if we fund it properly. Investing in more automation will yield long term benefits.
First and foremost, be the VOICE of your constituents. VOTE the way YOUR constituents want you to vote.

Be honest. Do the right thing. If you make a mistake, take ownership and fix it.

Be available. Be clear how your constituents can reach you. Answer their questions or concerns quickly and thoroughly.
The ability to LISTEN. The ability to solicit input and have a healthy discussion with those who agree with me and those who differ. I LOVE to engage in conversation and LEARN. I am very straightforward and speak my mind. I like others to do the same. No beating around the bush. HONESTY. Do the RIGHT thing. Vote the way the majority of your constituents want you to vote, not what serves me best. Excellent government EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE of how the City runs. Good BUDGET EXPERIENCE and ability to read and understand budgets. Ability to COMPROMISE and work through issues without giving up on your values and beliefs. I have a history of working with others and getting results that work for all parties. COMMON SENSE. I have a good solid foundation and a lot of experience to draw upon. FOLLOW THROUGH. Have the courtesy to respond in a timely and thorough manner. I like to respond as quickly as possible once I have the information I need to be thorough and provide a complete answer. If it is taking longer than expected, provide a status and an estimated time to complete my response.
I did what I said I would do. I made a difference. I left things better than I found them.
My first steady job was working for the retailer Target. I started out part time in the shoe department, progressed to full time while still in high school, then to cashier, front lanes supervisor, warehouse manager, department manager, store merchandise manager, then ended my career with Target as an operations manager. I worked for Target for 13 years.
I think it is a huge benefit to have previous government experience. Knowing how your local government operates, who to contact when you have an issue to resolve or a question you need answered. I have over 26 years government management experience. I have worked with all of the current Councilmembers, Mayor, upper City management, and virtually every department and department director in the City. I know who to ask and where to look when I need something done or have an issue to resolve.
Having the skill and patience to LISTEN. That should be one of the most important things we do as councilmembers. LISTEN. EVALUATE. ACT. Vote the way the majority of our constituents want you to vote.
Knowing how the City runs is certainly a HUGE benefit as well. Having worked with the key players like all of the current and many of the past Councilmembers, Mayors, upper City management, City staff and all of the Department Directors will enable me to get more done in a much shorter period of time. Knowing what questions to ask and who to ask is invaluable. Having a financial background and feeling comfortable reading and understanding budgets is very important. SCRUTINIZE. REALLOCATE. REDUCE.
The most important ones....the CONSTITUENTS I will represent when elected. Other organizations would certainly be welcome, but none would be as important as the constituents I will represent.
I am a HUGE believer in transparency and government accountability. I think it is just ridiculous and unacceptable how hard it is at times to stay informed and know what OUR government officials are working on, what their stand is on issues and legislation that is coming before them, what their stand is on spending and what if anything they are doing about cutting costs and reducing our taxes. I will make myself available and answer any questions I can when a constituent contacts me. I will keep my website up to date with what I am working on and what I am doing to increase revenues and decrease costs.
