Riley ran in the 2012 election for Georgia State Senate District 47. Riley ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on July 31, 2012. Incumbent Frank Ginn (R) defeated Daniel "Danny" Yearwood in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3] Riley was defeated in the general election.[4]
