Biography
Tim Westley was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Westley served in the U.S. Army from 1991 to 1999 and the Texas National Guard for one year. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Christian ministry from Wayland Baptist University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Trident International University. Westley’s career experience includes working as a public school teacher, a pastor, a mail carrier, a professor, and an education services specialist. He has served as the historian for the Republican Party of Texas and as a board member with the San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Awareness (SACADA).[1][2][3]

Vicente Gonzalez (D) defeated Tim Westley (R), Vanessa Tijerina (G), and Ross Lynn Leone (L) in the general election on November 8, 2016. A runoff for both parties was held on May 24, 2016. In the runoff primaries, Westley defeated Ruben Villarreal, and Gonzalez defeated Juan Palacios Jr. Incumbent Ruben Hinojosa did not seek re-election.[4][5]

My top three priorities are: 1) Border Security / Immigration Reform. 2) Protecting the Lives of the Unborn. 3) Providing better care for Veterans

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
1. Listen to the people. 2. Make decisions that are in the best interest of the majority. 3. Never compromise personal or public integrity of the office. 4. Ensure that the people are better off when you leave than when you came.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like to leave the legacy that I was a trailblazer who did not mind pushing the envelope to ensure the best for the people. I would like for people to remember, that above all, I cared for the best interest of the people and that I worked diligently to do the right thing to make the lives of Texans and Americans better!
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster in 1986. I was thirteen years old and it was a great awakening which made me realize just how dangerous it was for America to push to the outer limits of discovery. Yet, it help me grasp how it takes brave, super courageous people willing to risk it all for the betterment of our Nation.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was with my dad working as a 'Roofer'. I was the hardest job I'd ever done at that time. i lasted about two months before getting a job indoors and registering for college for an immediate career change.
What happened on your most awkward date?
I don't recall any dates that would be considered an awkward date, lol.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I get to hear specifics as to why my family is thankful (thought I hear it often in general before that date). Also, I get designated time where my family is not working, nor in school and we get to spend a lot of great, quality time together, while enjoying great food!
What is your favorite book? Why?
21 Keys & Power-Steps To Success by Dr. Tim Westley. I love this book, not simply because I wrote it, but because it has already impacted many readers to become the best 'Them' they can be in all areas of their lives. Also. for me, it is a consistent reminder that I should never settle for 'mediocrity' when 'Excellence' is within me!
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
Superman. He's character had a know weakness, yet, it never stopped him from exercising his strengths to help the people at-large!
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My computer and home office. I am able to get so much done, connect to the world, convert new ideas into realities, plan for vacations, and so much more.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
"For Your Glory" by Tasha Cobb. I push forward in life because of God's Grace upon my life and I work to bless Him. My journey is for His Glory! To God Be The Glory!
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
Saying no. I've struggled with rejecting request of anyone who needs help. Because I am viewed as a 'fixer' by many, I have often been inundate with request to fix lives. Fortunately, I've learned to redirect and delegate at a greater level to help many, without overwhelming myself, nor my time availability.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
There is likely not single solution that will be perfect, so a combination of options may be the answer such as the following: Seek independence - give redistricting authority to individuals who aren't beholden to particular elected officials. Foster transparency - engage informed members of the public in the redistricting process. Finally, by allowing for a redistricting commission that is nonpartisan, better redistricting may be achieved.
What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?
The House of Representatives shares equal responsibility for lawmaking with the U.S. Senate. Yet, it is the institution uniquely task with the power to initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President in the case of an electoral college tie.
Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
It can be beneficial for Representatives to have prior government or political experience as this could provide a good foundation. However, it could be equally beneficial for one without such experience as they may approach, see, and respond to things differently and bring new perspectives on old matters.
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
National Security, Immigration, Economic Viability, Health Reform.
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Appropriations Armed Services Education and the Workforce Veteran Affairs Ways and Means
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
No, I believe 3 year terms would be great and allow time for more to be done.
What are your thoughts on term limits?
I believe in Term Limits. With the 2 year term, one has to prepare to run for office again just as quick as an election ends.

No.

Yes, this story was up close and personal. I had a friend of my receive sub-standard treatment while in a V.A. hospital. He had a heart attack will there, was not found immediately. Although revived, was in a horrible state and eventually died recently. His family was compensate from the government due to negligence found. Nevertheless, i escorted his body out of the V.A. with his wife just over a year ago, while on the campaign trail and officiated his funeral on October 4, 2017. I have vowed that I will get to Washington and fight for reforms, transparency, and accountability to ensure such a tragedy never happens to another family.
