Timothy Aguilar was a candidate for District 1 representative on the Roswell Independent Schools school board in New Mexico. Aguilar was defeated in the by-district general election on February 7, 2017.

Four of the five seats on the Roswell Independent Schools school board were up for by-district general election on February 7, 2017. The District 1, 3, and 5 seats were up for regular election to four-year terms, and the District 2 seat was up for special election to a two-year term. In her bid for re-election to District 1, incumbent Mona Kirk defeated challengers Timothy Aguilar and Jennifer Stanford. The race for the two-year term in District 2 featured appointed incumbent Nicole Austin and challenger Louis Mestas. Austin won the election. District 3 incumbent Peggy Brewer was defeated by challenger Alan Scott Gedde. In District 5, appointed incumbent Arturo Ibarra was also defeated. Challenger James Edwards won the seat.[1][2]

Funding

Candidates in the Roswell Independent Schools election did not have to file campaign finance reports. The state only required campaign finance reporting for school districts with an enrollment of 12,000 students or more.[3]
