I am Brigadier General (Ret) Tim Connelly. I am a dedicated father, Soldier, businessman, and lifetime servant of my nation in the defense of other and the freedom of our great nation. Twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary service in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am fully focused on protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, and for preserving the livelihood of all Hawaii residents. COST OF LIVING is at the forefront of all Hawaii residents, and too many of our residents are being forced to move to the mainland, leaving their homes and culture, so they can live within their means. I will do all I can to fight misguided incumbent legislature, to lower the cost of living, reduce taxes, and support an business and economic environment that promotes growth, hiring and opportunity. NO economy has ever been taxed in to prosperity, and I will do all I can to cut taxes and stimulate economic growth. I have led American Soldiers in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and through a global pandemic with enormous success. I am a father to two amazing daughters and a foster parent of three years. We must protect our citizens, reduce crime and homelessness, grow our economy, educate our children, improve our infrastructure, and overhaul our emergency disaster response system. I support a market driven economy that create the highest average standard of living. I will back our police, first responders and the Hawaii National Guard
- Empower Hawaii residents to KEEP THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY! Promote economic growth, lower taxes, support businesses and help keep Hawaii families in Hawaii! No economy has been taxed in to prosperity and we need to do all we can to encourage business to open and operate in Hawaii which will provide more employment opportunities for Hawaii residents. I fully support no income taxes on tips, as this will attract more people in to the services industry and have a strong postive impact on the tourism industry in Hawaii because of increasingly improved customer service. I am a strong advocate for driving economic prosperity and empowering small businesses to succeed in our service focused Hawaii economy.
- Our schools are ranked in the bottom third of the nations. This is simply unacceptable given the taxes we pay. I will fight to eliminate government waste and prioritize resources toward the eductation of our children so teacher compensation reflects the quality of teacher we have and need in our schools. Hawaii public schools should have an abundance of resources and the best schools in our nation given the tourist and military based economy we enjoy. So the only excuse for our poor educational ranking nationwide is because our school are not prioritized and under resourced when our schools and our children should be a top priority.
- Our Emergency Disaster Response system is broken and must be repaired immediately before we lose another 1,100 Hawaii resident. No one has been held to account for the lives lost in the Lahaina tragedy and we are no more prepared today than we were in 2023 should another disaster occur again in Hawaii. I am an expert in disaster preparedness and response and do all I can to press local and state law enforcement to ensure they are fully prepared and rehearsed for the next disaster, which is sure to come eventually, so we never experience a preventable loss of 1,100 Hawaii residents and family members. Those responsible must be held to account so that nothing like this ever happens again.
Stimulating economic growth, lower our cost of living, improving our public schools, protecting our beautiful environment (because it's why tourists come to visit us from around the world), reducing crime, supporting our local and state law enforcement, repairing our broken infrastructure, and ensuring we have a world class National Guard force that is fully prepared to any state or federal crisis, anywhere in our state or around the world.
President Ronald Reagan. He was a principled, common sense leader with courage, conviction, charisma and the ability to communicate with the American people like no other. He believed in the essential principles of freedom and democracy, and defeated communism and socialism both ideologically and literally as our President. We need another Ronald Reagan now.
Anything written or spoken by Milton Friedman or Thomas Sowell, who essentially speak to the power of human nature and our natural inclination
Honesty, character and integrity are most critical. A principled approach to ensuring the protection of our constitutional rights and freedoms must be paramount to an elected official. Let's face it - elected officials have a reputation of bending their beliefs to the highest donor. I am not that candidate. My military career has taught me that integrity and character are principles above all others. And because I will represent the people of Hawaii and their ability to thrive and prosper in this high cost of living economic environment, I will do all I can to represent their interests before all others.
I am superbly qualified. I have led American Soldiers in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and through a global pandemic with enormous success. I am a law enforcement professional who has looked terrorists in the face, and I know what it takes to protect our communities. I have developed, implemented and enforced policies that take care of people, protect the vulnerable and punish lawbreakers. I have taken on bureaucracy, pushed through red tape and unfair treatment to get results. And while this might all sound tough, I also have a huge heart. I am a father of two amazing daughters and an experienced foster parent for three years. I will fight in the halls of our legislature for families and children as if they were my own, while never seeking to impose undue values upon them. That responsibility will always remain with the family.
I believe in and I am knowledgable of market driven economies with minimal government intervention because history conclusively shows that free markets create a community and a country that, even in troubled times, enjoys the highest average standard of living and quality of life above that of any other. That said, I recognize that there are those in genuine need and those who are vulnerable, and I believe that good societies with the means to do so should always assist those who are in genuine need of our support. It is the 100% right thing to do.
I am experienced at managing budgets, prioritizing resources, eliminating waste, optimizing processes and driving actions and results. I support fiscally conservative principles. I support strong law enforcement and emergency responders. I will push to ensure we have a highly capable and professional Hawaii National Guard. I will defend common sense, defend the rights of women in society and in sports, and fight to protect our children in schools from abusive and inappropriate treatment. To represent the interests of their constituency and of the entire state in a way that ensures they able to enjoy the full benefits of a flourishing economy that is not encumbered by unnecessary government regulation but instead empowered by policies and regulations that encourage growth, reinvestment and job creation. This will lead to an exceptionally strong economy that will benefit all!
One of my primary mantra's is the "4 E's". Economy, Energy, Education, & Environment. In all four cases, I would like to leave Hawaii in a better place than I found it upon taking office. Our economy is overtaxed and overburdened with rising inflation, and I will pusue legislation that lowers the cost of living, reduces taxes and incentivizes business to grow, invest and hire. Our energy infrastructure is overwhelmed, extremely expensive, and ill-prepared for the green agenda promised today. I will bring common sense to the energy conversation and inform and educate Hawaii residents on what is truly the best options for affordable, available and sustainable energy. In education, it is simply misdirected resourcing and spending that has place Hawaii schools in the bottom 1/3 of public schools in the nation. With our tax base, we should be in the top 10 in the nation, but we are not and I will fix that. I am staunch support of clean waters, safe roads and trails, and clean air because I swim, bike and run all over this state and I will pursue common sense legislation that fixes our water and parks quality issues for Hawaii residents and the tourism industry alike.
The first one that I can remember well was the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. This was an extraordinary event that marked a significant victory across the globe for freedom loving nations, the defeat of communism and the dissolution of the USSR. Very few events did more to promote a general world wide increase in human rights, free society, and flourishing, market based economies. While we continue to fight the evils of communism, socialism, and terrorism to this day, the fall of the Berlin Wall was a significant event that substantially changed the course of history. I was 21 years old at the time.
My very first job out of college was as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. I recently retired with over 33 years of commissioned service and 25 years of active federal service. I also spent roughly 10 years in the private sector (while serving in the active and inactive reserve component of the Army) during which I was a very successful leader in the private sector working in technology, staffing, human resources outsourcing, telecommunication and data networking. If you want to go way back, I suppose my actual first job was as a paper boy delivering newspapers around the rural town I grew up in, riding my bike miles a day to deliver the paper. Those were my earliest days, in my young teen years, of learning to exercise and work hard to earn an income which helped set the foundation of the work ethic that has carried me through to this day.
As a military officer I am well read on books concerning strategy in battle such as "On War" by Clausewitz. In order to prevent war, one should know how best to strategize to win without conflict, because conflict and war is the last resort when politics and diplomacy fails. It takes a Soldier to know that war is never a good option and only warranted in the most dire circumstances.
Ironman. Because I've done 9 x Ironman triathlons and I like the character's suit because I actually think the technology might exist some day to make it work like it does in the movies!
I have had many struggles but losing my parents to cancer, my brother to medical malpractice, and my sister to a lifetime of drug abuse, brought me significant grief and struggle for some time. I miss them every day and will do all I can to support the fight to find a cure for cancer, find ways to improve our healthcare system, and seek improved measures to curb drug addiction and homelessness. It's all personal to me.
A symbiotic relationship of compromise that seeks the optimal balance of legislative solutions that seek to "benefit all" and "do no harm". I believe I can work with Gov Green to achieve logical legislative solutions that grow our econonmy, improve our schools and infrastructure, and ensure we are far more prepared for our next disaster than we were for what happened in Lahaina.
Combating cost of living increases, homelessness, improving our poor public schools rating, protecting our environment and ensuring we are prepared for our next natural disaster.
No, not necessarily. It is important to understand the legislative process and to be willing to operate within establish procedures. However, an persistent ability to influence change through a stubborn bureaucracy is far more important when trying to bring improvements to the table for eventually passage in to law.
Most certainly. Legislative change requires persuasion of others to understand and concur with your perspective relative to the best interests of all of the citizens of Hawaii. Nothing gets passed in to law without relationships and the courage to speak to what is right and just for all of the residents of Hawaii.
Ronald Reagan is held high as the exemplar of conservative leaders that saved our nation and the free world from communism and oppression. I ascribe to his philosophies and economic principle as an exemplar to the a prosperous economic future in Hawaii.
Yes, my next logical step would be to run for a seat with the Hawaii State Senate, but I'm going to focus on how best to contribute in the Hawaii State House for the foreseeable future.
A local Kailua public school teacher shared with me that nearly all Hawaii public school teachers invest a large percentage of their own teacher pay
This is a political venue and one is good: "If con is the opposite of pro, then is Congress the opposite of progress?"
Our democracy is guided by a principle based on three co-equal branches of government, each acting as a check and balance of the others. Oversight of the executive branch is crucial to the voice of the people being heard. Extremely limited emergency powers of short duration may be appropriate is the most dire circumstances and every instance in which these powers are exercised should be subject to thorough oversight and assessment by the legislature. Any extension of emergency powers beyond an initial, highly limited use, should require approval by the legislature with 3/4 majority ruling in favor before an extension is granted.
I will craft a bill that targets reduced business regulations and lowers taxes for Hawaii residents. No economy has ever been taxed into prosperity. Flourishing businesses drive economic growth, which benefits everyone, and can only happen through tax cuts and reduced government regulation. While I fully support recently passed income tax cuts, they don’t go far enough to reduce the tax burden on Hawaii residents, nor does it provide local businesses with a stable, less restrictive environment that encourages investment and growth. We must strive to reduce taxes, lower the cost of living for all Hawaii residents, and reduce business regulations. I support reducing taxes and lowering energy costs to stimulate the economy.
I am highly interested in spending on our public schools, infrastructure prioritization, emergency disaster response preparedness, law enforcement and protection of our beautiful environment.
It goes without saying that there should be 100% transparency of government programs and accountability. It's all funded by the hard earned tax payer dollars of the residents of Hawaii and our residents have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent. Anything less than this is subject to high degree of scrutiny relative to the preferences of special interests groups.
I support giving citizens the power to decide on important issues. I fully back a statewide citizens initiative process, allowing any citizen or organization to put measures on the ballot by gathering a set number of signatures. This is pure democracy, giving people a way to act when they feel unheard by the government. Other states have versions of this process, so we can adopt best practices to create an effective system in Hawaii that everyone can be proud of.
