Timothy S. Hillman is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He joined the court in 2012 after an appointment from President Barack Obama (D). He assumed senior status on July 1, 2022.[1]

At the time of his appointment, Hillman was a federal magistrate judge for the court. He was first appointed to this position on February 13, 2006.[2]

Education

Judge Hillman was born in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. He received his B.A. degree from Coe College in 1970 and his J.D. degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1973.[2][1]

District of Massachusetts

On August 5, 2011, Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown recommended to the President the nomination of Judge Hillman as district judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in Worcester.[4]

Obama officially nominated Hillman on November 30, 2011, to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts to fill the vacancy left by Nancy Gertner.[5]

Hillman was rated "Unanimously Well Qualified" by the American Bar Association. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 15, 2012, and you can find his Committee Questionnaire available here and his Questions for the Record available here.[6]

On June 4, 2012, the United States Senate confirmed Timothy Hillman to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts with a vote of 88-1.[7][8] He assumed senior status on July 1, 2022.[1]

District of Massachusetts, Maigstrate

Hillman was appointed a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts (Worcester Division) on February 13, 2006. He served until he was elevated to an Article III post for the district.[2][1]
