An effort to recall Timothy Idzikowski and Sharon Stiltner from their positions on the Algonac Community School District School Board was launched in June 2013. The recall language was approved on July 1, 2013 and supporters had 180 days to collect signatures. Ultimately, no signatures were submitted.[1]
Recall support arguments
Recall organizers Citizens for a Better Algonac Community Schools stated they were upset over the "outsourcing school district transportation services for Algonac Public Schools." They hope to recall all of the school board, but Michigan law prevents them from starting until January based on when the school board members were elected.[2]
Path to the ballot
On June 4, 2013, Citizens for a Better Algonac Community Schools treasurer Ron Campbell filed an initial recall of Idzikowski and Stiltner with the St. Clair County Election Commission. The commission rejected the request on June 17 in a 3-0 vote over factual accuracy of the petition language. The petition had stated, "Timothy Idzikowski and Sharon Stiltner voted in favor of outsourcing school district transportation services for Algonac Public Schools." This statement proved incorrect as the board had not yet actually voted on the outsourcing contract.[2]
Citizens for a Better Algonac Community Schoolsre submitted the petition on July 1, 2013. The St. Clair County Election Commission approved the language "Timothy Idzikowski and Sharon Stiltner supported outsourcing of Algonac Community Schools Transportation." Recall supports had 180 days to collect signatures equal to 25 percent of those who voted in the last gubernatorial election.[3][4]
No signatures were submitted to carry the recall effort forward.[1]
