My name is Tim Lewis and I’m running as a Libertarian for Virginia Delegate in the 88th District.

I’m a husband, a father of three, a retired US Marine, and I sit on the board of Directors for a non-profit aimed at helping underprivileged children. I’ve lived in Virginia for over twenty years and during that time, I’ve seen the government grow and grow. It’s time to hit the brakes.

It's time to give Virginia back to Virginians.
  • A properly run government should be small enough to go unnoticed while still providing a safety net and essential services.

  • Virginia's government has been on a one-way ticket to growth. It consumes what it wants and it's up to us to tell it to stop.
  • I am not your superior. I don't pretend to know how to run your life better than you do. We need to embrace liberty.
The most fundamental element of Virginia is you. You own yourself. If someone attempts to harm or defraud you, the government is there to serve as an administrator of justice.

You choose what you spend your life on. You give a piece of your life to work, to play, to create… You prioritize where you put your energy and what goals you wish to accomplish.
When you spend your life for a reward or property, that reward and property is a receipt for the life spent to earn it. To hold claim over someone’s property is to hold claim over that portion of their life they spent.

Virginians are taxed on their food, on diapers for their babies. You shouldn't have to pay Virginia to keep your baby clean or to keep your family alive.
I've always held my grandfather, Joe Azbell, as a hero of mine. He ran away from home during the dust-bowl at the age of 12 when his family had too many mouths and not enough food. As a runaway kid, he'd hide in libraries from the truant officers because that was the last place they'd look for kids. He was very well read. He went on to join the US Army Air Corps and later became a writer and city editor for the Montgomery Advertiser where he published a pamphlet by the Montgomery Improvement Association calling for a bus boycott.

His personal toughness to strike out on his own, his commitment to serve, and his controversial willingness to support those without a voice, to stand up for what was right during a very troubled time are an ethos passed down in my family and are traits I strive to emulate in my life.
Know what oppression looks like. Know what oppression feels like. Know what it's like to be told what to do and how to do it and how much you should pay a government not even involved in the transaction for the privilege. Know what it's like to want to do something only to be told that you can't.

Know these things... and don't do it to other people.

As long as people aren't out hurting others, defrauding others, or taking their stuff, people should be free to choose and left to be free.
I don't need a legacy. This isn't about me. This is about restoring freedom and choice to the people of Virginia.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams. After you're done reading the story, you can still just open it up to any page and enjoy.
Not any more than any other background. A welder can determine right from wrong. A cook knows it's wrong to tax diapers. A chemist knows it's wrong to tax the food they needs to live. A business owner knows and lives with the ever growing legislation telling them how to run their business.

Someone who has spent their life in government or politics isn't going to vote to cut funding for government or politics. It's their livelihood. It's what they know.
I'm not. I have a family. I have a job. If I'm being honest here, getting elected would make both harder. But I see something that needs to be done and I'm not going to ask someone else or wait for someone else to do it. Virginia's government needs to stop growing, they need to stop taxing and regulating more and more of our lives. We're losing our freedom and someone has to stand up and say, "Enough."
My youngest kid turned 16 and immediately wanted the independence which comes from getting a vehicle and a job to support themselves more. When they got that first check, they were floored by the taxes taken from the wages. When they gas their vehicle, they're taxed again. they're taxed on their tips, they're taxed on their purchases, they're taxed on their vehicle... they can't even vote for another two years and they're already familiar with the premise that you cannot do much in this state without the government reaching in and taking their cut.
