Campaign themes
2016
Opsitnick's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Leadership: Tim Opsitnick believes that a leader takes ownership of an idea and does not care who gets credit for its implementation. Our best leaders and politicians are the most humble. Local Focus: Tim looks forward to representing Lorain County where he currently lives and grew up, and Huron County which was settled by his family almost two hundred years ago. Small Business: Tim Opsitnick is a businessman, not a politician. He founded a small business over fifteen years ago and understands what it takes to create jobs and pay salaries. He believes that the development and growth of small business, including farms, drives the economy. He has the knowledge and experience to spur innovation and create private sector jobs. Furthermore, he believes that government regulations are out of control and stifle the growth of small business. He strongly supports regulatory reform—a prospective review of new regulations and a retrospective review of current regulations—to make small business and farms competitive with those in other states. Economic Prosperity and Job Creation: Tim Opsitnick believes that the creation of a business friendly environment with adequate resources is essential to creating jobs and economic prosperity; moreover, the best social program in the world is a great job at a decent wage. Workforce Development: Tim Opsitnick understands as a businessman that for business to succeed and jobs to be created that the workforce must be prepared. He believes that a shortage of adequate skill training and continued brain drain—people leaving the area and not returning after college or other training— undermine job creation and economic prosperity. He will support our local schools, universities, community colleges and vocational schools as essential assets to job creation.[2] |
