Hello, I'm Dr. Tina D. Pierce and I am running for the Columbus City Schools Board of Education. As a lifelong resident of Columbus, a Beechcroft High School graduate, and the mother of CCS students, I am both a product of and a strong supporter of our Columbus City Schools.

I'm running for a position on the school board because I believe every child in the Columbus City School District deserves a high-quality education that builds 21st century skills and sets our children up for success as they graduate into a global economy. I have spent 19 years helping students achieve success at the university and high school levels, and I know I can do more to help all our students get the quality education they deserve no matter what zip code they live in.

It's time for some new faces and perspectives to help guide our schools. It's time to help all Columbus schools get on the fast track to success. It's time to do better, because our children deserve better.
  • Tina Pierce is committed to serving as an active voice for transparency and accountability.
  • Tina Pierce is committed to providing access to the resources our children and families need to be safe, healthy, and ready to learn.
  • Tina Pierce is committed to collaborating with our educators to provide safe and innovative learning environments.
I believe our Columbus City Schools Board of Education must be accountable and responsible at every level of governance. As a representative of our students and parents, I will advocate for student-focused education. As the voice of our educators, I will champion the creation of local and state policies that are in the best interest of our educators, students, schools, and communities. I will work to challenge policies that limit student-focused classroom instruction. I will commit to governing the district by finding effective and efficient ways to ensure each students is highly-educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community.
My academic and professional experiences have given me an understanding of the organization and structure of U.S. education; and the roles of local, state, and federal government in education policy administration and financing. I understand the various stakeholders and complex processes that impact the governance of our district; education and success of our children; and morale and success of our educators and staff. I have facilitated workshops for CCS staff on the application of teaching and learning methods to promote educational equity. I have worked to advance student learning in our schools by serving on site-based councils and facilitating academic/leadership programs.
As a Board member, I will work collaboratively with district leaders, administrators, community partners, and state legislators to establish, monitor, and evaluate state mandated standards in student achievement, instruction, principal leadership, and professional development. This will assist our Board in identifying poor performance areas (student, teacher, principal, school) and other obstacles to student achievement. I will bring analytical expertise to the Board and critically examine instructional tools, resources, and data collection methods that work best for our district.
My upbringing in a strong working class family instilled within me the belief that education and hard work provide the critical foundation for success in life. My mother and grandparents set high academic expectations early and provided me with the tools and support I needed to thrive in school. They also cultivated my sense of responsibility and value of hard work. I helped care for my younger brother and cousins. I completed household chores and yard work. Throughout middle school, I participated in numerous community service projects and volunteered at COSI. My very first paid job was at Kroger. In 1994, the Columbus Public School District partnered with Kroger to establish 28 paid summer internships. I was one of those proud interns. We were paid union wages to work part-time jobs, plus a bonus for finishing the summer long program. As an intern, I learned about various aspects of the grocery store industry. The internship also helped me explore the type of work I wanted to do as an adult and the skills I would need to do that work.
I believe the Board of Education must be accountable and responsible at every level of governance. As a representative of our students and parents, I will advocate for student-focused education. As the voice of our educators, I will champion the creation of local and state policies that are in the best interest of our educators, students, schools, and communities. The words of Barbara Jordan, "Education remains the key to both economic and political empowerment" will reverberate as I call for the dismantling of policies that limit student-focused classroom instruction. I will commit to governing the district by finding effective and efficient ways to ensure each students is highly-educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community.
Flourishing students, engaged parents and community members, innovative educators, rigorous standards, safe state-of-the-art facilities, technology enhanced learning tools and inspiring student-focused programs are words that describe the future of Columbus City Schools. As a representative of our students, parents, and educators I will dedicate myself to the success of our children and schools!
I believe all children can succeed! I will advocate for high-quality exceptional student programs and teaching approaches in all schools and grades to identify, diagnose, and appropriately serve students with unique needs and/or giftedness.
