My parents. I recently lost both of them. They embodied everything I strive to be and instilled values and a strong work ethic in me.
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. This movie impacted me greatly at a very young age. It highlights the importance of integrity and moral courage in the face of political cynicism and manipulation, emphasizes the importance of citizen engagement in the political process, and demonstrates the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of overwhelming opposition.
Integrity, fairness, competence, leadership, communication skills, vision, problem-solving skills, empathy, and accountability. All of these together help ensure that an elected official can effectively represent and serve their constituents.
I'm highly dedicated and committed to serving the needs of my community. I have a strong sense of responsibility and desire to make a positive impact. I'm confident my combination of dedication, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to ethical leadership make me well-suited to effectively serve as Assembly Member in District 20 and advocate for the interests of the community.
There are several core responsibilities, primarily centered around representing constituents and contributing to the legislative process at the state level. These include: drafting, proposing, debating, and voting on state laws and resolutions; representing the interests and concerns of the constituents; participating in the development and approval of the state budget; serving on legislative committees; monitoring and evaluating the implementation of state laws and programs; community engagement; advocacy and leadership on issues that are important to the district or the state as a whole; develop informed policy proposals; assisting constituents in navigating state government services, providing support, and addressing concerns; and upholding high ethical standards to maintain public trust and integrity in the legislative process.
I would like to leave a legacy of improved educational opportunities and better school funding and one that fosters economic development, protects reproductive rights and ensures high-quality healthcare for all constituents. Overall, my goal is to leave a legacy that reflects my values, my belief in the power of collective action to create positive change, and my commitment to making a difference.

I worked alongside my best friend as an "assistant" babysitter from the ages of 14-16, then working filing records in a local doctor's office from 18-21.
To Kill a Mockingbird because even when I first read it at a young age, it inspires thought into profound themes such as racial injustice, moral growth, and fortitude. It challenges us to reflect on our own beliefs and societal norms.
Becoming a single mother after a divorce. It's taught me resilience and gave me the grit and financial acumen that led to being able to purchase my own home while sending my daughter through college.
The ideal relationship is one of cooperation, collaboration, and mutual respect. This consists of open, regular communication, respect for separation of powers, compromise and negotiation, and a commitment to finding solutions to shared challenges. Ultimately, the governor and legislature should prioritize the well-being of the state and its citizens above partisan politics or personal agendas.
We face many challenges, but I perceive those of the greatest significance to be: healthcare access and equity, education reform; fiscal sustainability; upgrading and modernizing infrastructure, including water and sewer systems, broadband access, and transportation systems; strengthening public safety; homelessness; and climate change and environmental sustainability.
I believe it's beneficial, but other traits, skills, and experience such as life experience, sound perspective, and a history of serving at the local level in communities on school boards, PTAs, or advisory boards can be equally as important.
Building relationships is key to passing fair, balanced legislation and achieving meaningful outcomes on behalf of the constituents and their communities.
Although I have and continue to admire many legislators over the course of my life, I am unique in my approach and positions.
After Superstorm Sandy, our community, like many others, was devastated. Over the course of the years afterward, in my positions on the school board and City Council, I heard stories from many residents most impacted from the flooding damage from this and other storms, including those living in a part of our community that has historically faced environmental justice issues. During my time on the City Council, I was able to work to finally push through an infrastructure project that will protect the residents in this community that are most vulnerable to flooding impacts. I also worked to secure grants to re-engineer the sewage system to stop the discharge of millions of gallons of effluent into Reynolds Channel each day, that will ultimately stop this waste from entering our most vulnerable neighborhoods during flooding events.
I really don't have one, but I appreciate a good one when I hear it.

There are times when granting emergency powers can be necessary to respond effectively to emergencies, but it is imperative to strike a balance between empowering the government to act decisively and safeguarding against potential abuses of power.

They are fundamental pillars of a healthy democracy. Transparency enables citizens to assess whether government spending aligns with their priorities and values, and serves as a deterrent against corruption and misuse of public resources. Some measures, such as the Equal Rights Amendment, are so important that they should be voted on directly by the people. Districting can sometimes give more power to a political party that doesn’t reflect the political beliefs of the majority of residents, so putting the vote directly to the people on these types of issues that may not be adequately addressed by the legislature allows them to have a dec
