2026 battleground election
Ballotpedia identified the March 3, 2026, Republican primary as a battleground election. The summary below is from our coverage of this election, found here.
Ryan Binkley (R), Darrell Day (R), and five other candidates are running in the Republican primary for Texas' 32nd Congressional District on March 3, 2026. The filing deadline is December 8, 2025. As of November 2025, Binkley and Day led in polling and local media attention.[2][3]
The primary is taking place in the context of Texas' August 2025 redistricting. An Inside Elections analysis of the new district lines said the 32nd District "was previously a compact, Dallas-based seat with a Baseline of D+22. Now, it stretches from the Dallas suburbs deep into conservative East Texas, giving it a Baseline of R+17. Accordingly, we are changing our rating in this seat from Solid Democratic to Solid Republican."[4] As of November 2025, incumbent Julie Johnson (D) had not announced plans for 2026 pending court challenges to the new maps.[5]
Binkley is the chief executive of a mergers and acquisitions firm and the senior pastor of Create Church in Houston.[6] Binkley ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Binkley says he is running because "America needs a spiritual revival and America needs an economic revival and the time for that revival is now...we're going to win it back for President Trump."[7]
Day is a business owner. Day was the Republican nominee in 2024, losing to Julie Johnson (D) 61%–37% under the old district lines. Day says he is "the MAGA candidate, running to bring honesty, common sense and proven conservative leadership to Congress. I stand on the unshakable foundation of the Bible and the U.S. Constitution to deliver solid solutions for Texans."[8]
Also running in the primary are Aimee Carrasco (R), Monty Montanez (R), Eric Niehaus (R), Tobey Pearson (R), and Zain Shaito (R).
If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff on May 26.

I was born at Methodist Hospital in Dallas Texas. I've physically lived in North Texas my entire life except for 4 years in the Air Force. I lived in District 32 in Dallas, and was also in District 32 until it was redistricted to District 5 and then redistricted again back to District 32.
I don't have the pedigree of the others running for this same office. I don't sit on Boards of Directors, own businesses, serve as CEO, have a fancy degree or have ties to legacy political organizations. I commute to a job where I work 40+ hours a week, pay bills and enjoy time with my family as much as I can. I'm not the establishment elite. I'm one of you, not wanting to rule over you like some.
I envision executing the will of the people of District 32 and doing what is right for Texas, our Nation and the World in that order.- Have you felt the weight of rising prices, the challenge of finding good jobs, or the unease of an uncertain future? Too many of us wake to that reality every day. But what if we could change it? I stand here promising you a new dawn: an economy where your dollars stretch further, your work is valued, and your future feels secure.
We’ll tackle prices with bold action—streamlining supply chains, negotiating fair trade, aiming to ease the cost of essentials. We’ll create jobs in tech and manufacturing. For security, we’ll expand savings programs and cap debt interest rates, ensuring your hard-earned money builds a foundation, not a burden.
This isn’t just my promise—it’s ours. Together, we’ll forge an economy that works for every pocket. - Too many feel our Republic is adrift, clouded by secrecy and self-interest. I stand before you with a promise to clean house—to restore a government that belongs to us all. This isn’t easy. Entrenched interests will resist, and progress takes time. But I pledge to fight, step by step, with you at my side. Our democracy once weathered storms—think of the reforms of the past. Today, we’ll adapt that courage for a digital age, proving government can be a mirror of the people. What do you say—will you join me to reclaim it?
- Have you seen the chaos of illegal crossings, the scourge of drug smuggling, the horror of human trafficking? Too many lives are touched by this, from border towns to inner cities. I promise you reform that secures our nation while honoring our values. Together, we'll stop illegal immigration with smart borders while partnering with. We'll crack down on drug smuggling through AI at ports and joint operations, disrupting cartels that poison our streets. For human trafficking, we'll create victim-centered task forces, safe havens, and severe penalties, ensuring no one profits from exploitation.
I think that these are things that most of us experience in varying degrees, and all of it has made me the man that I am today.
It is necessary to take this into consideration and to work together to for the betterment of all.
