Clemens answered the following questions from Lake Country Now:

Why are you running for the school board?

As a former graduate of Mukwonago School District (Class of 1991), I was afforded a great education that positioned me for future success. I have served on the board the past six years and am running for a third term in order to ensure that all children in the district continue to receive the same education and opportunities that I was afforded. A quality school district has an impact on our community and property values.

How can the district attract/retain quality teachers?

The district must continue to compensate employees fairly in a competitive nature with our surrounding districts, provide support and guidance in the development of our staff and include teachers in our educational decision-making processes to increase teacher commitment.

What can the district do to increase student enrollment?

In the past couple of years the board has made it a goal to increase our marketing efforts to let the general public know all the accomplishments our district has achieved such as Blue Ribbon schools, state report cards, etc. We have expanded our course offerings (AP, shop, electives) to help ensure our students are successful and college ready.

What is the biggest challenge facing the district?

The biggest challenge facing the district is economic in nature and involves the state funding of our school district which creates uncertainty each state budget cycle.

How do you propose to address that challenge?

As a board we continue to communicate with our state representatives that serve our district to educate them on the quality of the education we provide and how the current funding of public education needs to be changed. We also work with Wisconsin Association of School Boards to advocate with state government on behalf of our district in an attempt to promote positive change.
