Todd Harris is a Republican political operative with Something Else Strategies. He was a political strategist for Marco Rubio's 2016 presidential campaign.[2]

Career

Todd Harris "did California media for the Dole/Kemp campaign in 1996."[3] He served as a spokesman for Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan's re-election campaign in 1997.[3] He was also a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) for a year, beginning in January 1998. After that, he was press secretary for John Kasich's (R) unsuccessful presidential bid. When Kasich abandoned his campaign in July 1999, Harris became a spokesman for John McCain's (R) presidential efforts and McCain's Straight Talk America PAC. He filled this role until December 2000.[1]

From February through December 2002, Harris worked as communications director for Jeb Bush's 2002 gubernatorial re-election in Florida. In 2003, he worked on another gubernatorial campaign, serving as a spokesman for Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.). He became a partner at Navigators Global LLC, a communications firm, in 2004, a role he filled for the next four years.[1] He then served as communications director for former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson's (R) failed 2008 presidential campaign.[3] He was a partner at Scott Howell & Company from 2008 through 2010.[1][4]

Harris worked on Marco Rubio's (R) successful 2010 U.S. Senate campaign as a senior strategist and media consultant.[3] Subsequently, several former staffers on Rubio's 2010 campaign, including Harris, came together to found Something Else Strategies.

Prior to his work with the Rubio presidential campaign, Harris was senior strategist and media consultant to Joni Ernst (R) during her successful 2014 U.S. Senate campaign in Iowa.[5][2]

According to John McArdle of Roll Call, "Todd Harris is known as a spinner extraordinaire in the world of political communication."[6] According to his biography on his company website, Politico called Harris "one of the brightest young minds in politics today."[2]

On April 13, 2015, Rubio announced his presidential run on a conference call with donors.[7] The Tampa Bay Times said of Harris when he was named to Rubio's campaign, "He understands the ever-changing media as well as anyone, and he has excellent contacts across the media spectrum. Harris worked most recently on Joni Ernst’s Senate campaign, giving Rubio an entry into Iowa."[8]

Howard Fineman and Jason Linkins of Huffpost Live addressed how Harris could help the Rubio campaign in a May 2015 interview (available via MSN.com):[9]

Rubio suspended his presidential campaign on March 15, 2016.[10]
