Pillion (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Virginia State Senate to represent District 6. He won in the general election on November 7, 2023.


Biography

Pillion received his B.A. from Lincoln Memorial University and attended Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry. His professional experience includes working as a pediatric dentist. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.[1]

The seat was vacant following A. Benton Chafin's (R) election to the Virginia State Senate on August 19, 2014.[11]

As of August 2017, Pillion's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[13]

Coal:
I will fight to stop job-killing regulations and taxes. I believe that coal is not only critical to our economy, but is also an important part of our culture and way of life. I plan to fight for our coal industry by working at the state level to stand up to the EPA and the Obama Administration. Good paying coal jobs help our whole economy in Southwest Virginia. I don’t think I would still be in business without them. I will stand up to the anti-coal politicians of BOTH parties in Richmond to ensure that my children, as well as yours, have the same quality of life in Southwest Virginia that you and I have.

Jobs and the Economy:
As a small business owner, I understand how over-regulation is suffocating businesses across Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth. Virginia has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the country. As Delegate, I will fight to oppose such taxes and regulations, so Virginia will become a more appealing place for businesses to expand. As an active Barter Theater board member I understand the need for increased tourism to the Southwest Virginia region. Though I will always stand up for our coal jobs, I will also work to bring jobs to our region by improving our regional job training centers and community colleges, and by working to grow our tourism economy. This “all of the above” approach will go a long way to improve the lives of Southwest Virginians

Life and Traditional Values:
I will stand up for our traditional values in Richmond. I will work to protect life, preserve marriage, and protect our childrens’ right to pray when they are in school. Watching our Attorney General abandon our state constitution has been a great disappointment, and I will work to reverse this while I am in Richmond. We deserve elected officials who will stand up for our constitution and protect our values .

Healthcare:
I am opposed to expanding Obamacare in Virginia. Obamacare has been a disaster since day 1, and more of it just doesn’t make sense. As a healthcare professional, I see the negative effects of this new program each and every day. Premiums are skyrocketing and citizens are losing their coverage every day. As Delegate, I will do whatever it takes to fight against the expansion of Obamacare. I will support legislation that allows the private sector to grow in order to drive the price of premiums down while maintaining or increasing the amount of coverage for patients.

2nd Amendment:
I grew up on a family farm learning to hunt and respect gun safety with my father and brother, and during my tenure in the National Guard, I was also a certified as a sharpshooter. I am an avid supporter of our gun rights and will stand up against the Obama Democrats in Richmond to preserve the Second Amendment. As both a gun owner and outdoorsman, I will actively support hunting and our right to bear arms in order to protect the Constitution, which I promised to do when I joined the military. [14]
