In my early adult life, I worked for DFL political figures and was politically active. I started my professional, legal career so I could raise a family in Minneapolis and be a part of my family’s every day activities. As an attorney, adjunct professor, mediator, coach, husband, father, and 30 year resident of the district, I believe I have much to give back to my south Minneapolis neighbors if you elect me to be your next DFL State Senator of District 63.
  • Immediate common-sense gun laws are urgently needed to protect the safety and welfare of our children and all Minnesotans. In 2017, guns overtook cars as the biggest injury-based killer of children and young adults in the U.S. If elected, I will author a comprehensive gun safety bill that will include a proposals to create a lability standard for gun manufacturers that fail to comply with the 2002 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). My legislation would also address gun theft prevention, untraceable firearms, prohibitions on certain ammunition and magazines, the sale of firearms to minors under 21, and comprehensive background checks for every gun sale or transfer in Minnesota.
  • A woman's right to choose her own health care, including the right to an abortion, must be defended. Reproductive care is essential health care and a fundamental right that the U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to undermine. Overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, not only strips women and pregnant people of their personal autonomy but opens the door to erode more fundamental rights. Today in Minnesota, the right to reproductive freedom and accessible healthcare for women are still the law, but forces in state government will seek to take away these freedoms in Minnesota. I will stand with our allies to protect women’s access to health care and personal autonomy.
  • Urgent action is needed for climate protection, and to confront a planetary emergency of our own making. Wildfire (and its smoke), extreme heat, intensified storms, increasing water acidification, and agricultural collapse are increasing climate associated risks Minnesotan's are currently experiencing and will undermine our children’s future. Minnesota must continue on its path of promoting renewable and alternative energy, legislating environmental health standard, and working toward the elimination of fossil fuel consumption. It can be done and it is critical to preserve Minnesota's lakes and clean air for today and for future generations.
In 2023, decisions will be made in the Minnesota legislative bodies that will significantly impact the lives of Minnesotans. Our personal rights and freedoms are being challenged at all levels of government. We must act now to protect women’s health in Minnesota, protect the citizens of our communities from gun violence, protect Minnesota's clean air and water for now and for our future generations, protect the rights and freedoms of all traditionally marginalized peoples including LGBTQIA+, people of color, and immigrants, and protect public education in Minnesota so all children have a path to success and teachers are treated fairly. My experience as an attorney, professor, mediator, husband, father, coach, and lifelong Minneapolis resident will make me the best person to help make the change that is urgently needed.
