Tolono Village Advisory Questions, 3 (April 2011)
Three Tolono Village Advisory Questions were on the April 5, 2011 ballot in the village of Tolono which is in Champaign County.
Two of these measures were defeated
The first measure asked residents if an overpass for the village should be constructed using existing tax money and also issue bonds.
- YES 142 (24.36%)
- NO 441 (75.64%)
The second measure asked residents if a new fire station should be constructed by using tax money and issue bonds as well.
- YES 360 (63.05%)
- NO 211 (36.95%)
The third measure asked residents if residents would like a quiet zone enacted near the railroad and use existing tax money to upgrade railroad safety devices.[1]
- YES 228 (39.72%)
- NO 346 (60.28%)[2]
The village has around $1 million from its tax-increment-financing (TIF) district and these three advisory questions would help village officials decide what to do with that money. The railroad quiet zone would cost the least amount of money and would have the most long term impact. The new fire station was suggested as residency has climbed in the village and further fire protection services are thought to be needed. The overpass would cost the most and has the most pro and con arguments. Alternatives to the overpass have also been suggested.[3]
