I am a lifelong Republican, a strong second amendment supporter, and pro-life. I have been a city councilman, president of the Board for Emerytelcom, Chair of the Emery County Republican Party, led the referendum movement opposing tax increases to food, services and fuel. Professionally I have Officiated softball at the college level, provide merchant processing services, and have taught for 29 years. Most valued is my marriage to my wonderful supportive wife Deanna of 32 years. A close second are my two grandchildren and three children. I was born and raised on the old Davis farm on South Flat, south of Cleveland. We have lived in Elmo for the past 30 years.
  • Government regulation can be a major impediment to productivity and to competition. We need to rely more on market forces and less on government. Nonprofit organizations receive millions of dollars in State Government funding. Government should not pick winners and losers.
  • State government should scale back on the creation of new bureaucratic jobs on the state level. There should be an audit, much like the GAO on the federal level, of duplicate or overlapping state agency services. Long term state legislators create jobs or funding for their own self interest. Our representative should focus on how to help put forth community interests, before their own self interests.
  • Individual freedom is the foundation of our bill of rights in the constitution. Freedom includes second ammendment rights, the right to life, freedom of speech and association, and a right to participate in secure elections. I will stand firmly behind constitutional principles both on the federal and state level. I will expand your freedom to do with your property what you will. Have municipalities, school districts and counties make decisions without state overreach. I will cut taxes to let you make decisions of who wins and loses in a capitalist ecconomy. I will represent the interests of district 67 over any of my own intersts. I will be your full time legislator.
Individual Freedom

Shrinking the size and influence of state government
Reforming centrally assesed properties to lower property taxes in rural Utah.
Reforming JRI to allow judges and prosecutors more tools to deal with repeat and violent offenders.
Eliminating the food tax.
Education funding reform for rural schools. Eliminating NESS funding in favor of a true weighted pupil unit that is double for single districts located in Counties classified 4-6.
Preserving 2nd amendment rights including hunting rights
Protecting the right to life of the unborn
Protect out Watersheds and our local control of our water shares under our state constitutional rights.
Protect our access to public lands

Protect out liberty to property ownership and use.
My Dad. He is 73 years old and still works full time as a heavy equipment opperator for a gold mine in Nevada. He always says, my life is simple. I wake up and go to work. It doen't get simpler than that.
I hope to be as dedicated and have the same work ethic as my father as I serve as your legislator.
Utah State constitution.

Constitution of the United States

John Lock's natural rights as containained in his treatise of civil government.
Serving constituents interests over their own self interests

Preserving and protecting constitutional rights both on the state and federal level.
Scaling back state agencies and quit taking taxpayers hard earned money for what I believe is best.
Protecting our citizens through supporting our law enforcement
Honest
Caring

Principled
Hard worker

Listen to local constituents
Principled

Family and faith oriented.
To create legislation.

What type of legislation? This is the key question.

I believe legislation should be narrow in scope, as the Utah Constitution dictates. The type of legislation that would be most beneficial to our area would be legislation that cuts the state overreach. Cuts state spending. Removes needless regulation. Creates a great educational experience for children in rural utah. Protects rural Utah from federal overreach. Protects our access to our water rights and fortifies the infrustruction of our water sources. Funds constitutional infrastructure, schools, roads and utilities in Rural Utah to alliviate the population pressure on the Wasatch Front.
My three sons and their families are my legacy. They are service oriented, self reliant, hard working providers who love their family.

My oldest served honorably in the Navy for 6 years and now serves in the National Guard of Utah as a SIGNT 35p linguist.
My second son serves his community on the DUI task force and SWAT team for the Utah Highway Patrol.
My youngest son serves as a Southeastern Regional Manager for the Utah Farm Bureau, serving farmer and ranching interests in Utah.

My legacy is family and service.
Closure of coal mines in Carbon and Emery County. Knowing people were out of work and had to move, made me mad as a I saw my childhood friends move away.
Farming and helping out with taking care of the animals on our family farm. I had this job throughout my childhood.
Boys in the Boat.
The lead character overcomes circumstances and learns to sacrifice for the betterment of those around him. It was a personal choice to not succumb to his circumstances but to work hard, overcome, rise above and sacrifice for a greater goal than he himself could ever dream of accomplishing.
Iron Man.
He had no super powers, except his own intelect. He used his intelect to solve problems and become extraordinary.
Don Williams: You're my best Friend
I have taught high school for 29 years, seeing the change in focus away from how to think and problem solving with a value of personal responsibility. Now the focus is on technology, social and emotional learning with a value on acceptance without responsibility has been a struggle.
Working partnership that upholds the values and rights of the citizens of the State of Utah. The Legislature passed laws and the governor is to execute the law.

yes
I have served as the Emery County Republican Chair. I have been elected and served as President of the Board for our Coop Emerytelcom. I have served on several community boards and as a city councilman.
Yes,
As a member of the State Republican cenral committee for over 6 years I have built these relationships. As county chair I have fostered the relationships between elected officials at many levels of our federal system from City to the national level.
No, maybe a county office, something local, where you can really help individuals and restore their freedoms. Our US congress is a cesspool of self serving corruption.
While I was working on the Tax referendum to stop tax increases on food, fuel and services, I talked with many residence. One man said, I'm not registered to vote, I'm not sure if really makes a difference. However, the state has reached into my pocket for property, food, sales, death, fees and fule taxes so much... I am done. If registering and me signing the petition has even a small effect, can you help me register?

Think about the hopelessness because all this man saw was a government that takes what he earns. His hopelessness caused apathy. Yet, if he felt he might have some small voice then he wanted to try and participate. I want to foster hope. I want to be a voice for those who feel fleeced by our state institutions.
Ronald Reagan- “Republicans think every day is the Fourth of July, but Democrats think every day is the Fifteenth of April.”
The underlying principle of the constitution of the State of Utah is:

"All persons have the inherent and inalienable right to enjoy and defend their lives and liberties; to acquire, possess and protect property; to worship according to the dictates of their consciences; to assemble peaceably, protest against wrongs, and petition for redress of grievances; to communicate freely their thoughts and opinions, being responsible for the abuse of that right."

I light of our constitution I would say "emergency powers" should be very rare, short in duration and very narrow in scope.
change Utah Code Section 59-2-924 to base the value of centrally assesed property from a self reporting depreciation sensative value to the valuation of the property based on production of the assets on the property as a revenue streem. Examples: A power plant would be taxed on the production of megawat hours. Railroads on the ammount of goods and services rendered. Mines based on how much of a natural resource is extracted. This would give a more reliable revenue stream to counties and would stablize the taxable centrally assesed entity, thus alliviating the pressure on rural residencial property tax levies.

Transparency and disclosures are vital for the constituents to have confidence in their elected officials. Accountability happens through elections and personal accountability, by the candidate, recognizing when they are no longer a public servent but merely part of an establishment protecting and providing for the growth and expantion of government.
