An effort in Plano, Texas, to recall City Councilman Tom Harrison was initiated in March 2018.[1] Petitioners turned in enough signatures by the deadline on April 5, 2018, moving the recall forward. On April 9, 2018, the Plano City Council voted to approve a recall election to be held on November 6, 2018.[2]
On August 14, 2018, district Judge Mark Rusch ruled in favor of Harrison, who argued that the city required too few signatures to certify the recall petition. On August 18, 2018, the Plano City Council voted unanimously to cancel the recall election.[3]
Recall supporters
The group One Plano Our Plano initiated the recall effort after Harrison shared a Facebook video on his personal account that asked followers to "share if you think Trump should ban Islam in American schools."[1]
Recall opponents
Harrison requested a public hearing before the city council to present his case. He said about the Facebook video:

Each recall petition in Texas must be approved for circulation during a clarity hearing held by the county election commission. This hearing determines if the charges made in the petition are clear enough for a voter to understand. If the petition is approved for circulation, a recall organizer can initiate the signature-gathering process.
Petitioners were required to gather 2,791 signatures. One Plano Our Plano submitted 4,225 signatures on the April 5 deadline.[1]
