An effort to recall Mayor Tom Hayes and Trustee Jim Bertucci did not go to a vote in Arlington Heights, Illinois.[1] Recall organizers did not submit signatures by the deadline on October 31, 2023.[2]

Recall supporters

Arlington Heights resident and recall organizer Tom Svoboda filed statements indicating his intent to submit recall petitions against Hayes and Bertucci. The Daily Herald reported that Svoboda said, "If you're going to change the town to that drastic effect, you (have to) do your research. They haven't done their research, and that's the crime here. That's why I'm bringing about the recall," in reference to a proposed redevelopment of Arlington Park by the Chicago Bears.[1]

Recall opponents

In response to the recall effort, Hayes wrote, in part, "I will respond in greater detail to any formal petition filed should it become necessary down the road, but, in the interim, I will stand on my 32-year record of elected service to this great village, including my 10 years as mayor, during which I have always based my decisions on what I thought was best for the entire community."[1]

Bertucci said, "I do what I can to help the town," and "I doubt he's going to get enough signatures, but if he did, sure, let's leave it up to the voters."[1]
