Campaign themes

2016

Heinks' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • I support tax repeal and reform to relieve Rural Minnesota business owners and farmers of the substantial tax burdens that go for metro projects. I support the repeal of the homestead shift in the Omnibus 2012 bill that put this tax burden on Rural Minnesota small businesses and farmers. These are the foundations of prosperity in rural Minnesota in which small towns are built on.
  • I support public and private education. I believe that not every child is the same. Education should be locally controlled, not state or federal. Our children are being taught to take state mandated tests and these tests eat up tax payer funds. Our schools put such emphasis on continuing to college that I fear those who would prefer a career in a skilled trade are put at a disadvantage. The only thing that all students need is an opportunity to pursue a meaningful career no matter what that may be.
  • I support the free market. Businesses should not be told when they can and can’t be open, like the ban on Sunday liquor sales by which the stores over in Wisconsin seem to be benefiting from far more than any Minnesotans. Small businesses are over burdened with government regulation and taxed to death in rural Minnesota, which in turn makes it harder for rural Minnesota to retain business that provide local jobs.
  • I support private property rights. Government should not be able to tell someone what they can or cannot do on or with their private property as long as it does not hurt those in the public.
  • I support the right to bear arms. The government does not need to know which citizens own guns, what kind and how many they may have. We as citizens have the right to defend ourselves from all threats. I support the right to defend your private property, family and life even with deadly force if necessary without reprimand.
  • I support my fellow veterans, veteran owned businesses and those who support them. Without their service and sacrifices past, present and future our nation of freedom and liberty would cease to exist. With that, I believe veteran benefits should be tax exempt and they should also be granted free hunting and fishing licenses as residents of our great state.
  • I believe a State Representative’s job is self-evident. They represent the people who elect them. They listen to their concerns and their opinions and give voice to them. Not only do they act on your behalf but they are accountable to you as well.
  • If elected as your next State Representative I will be your voice at the capital. I will put the needs of my district first. I will not support or vote for bills which will harm our communities economically or socially. I will not make back room deals, such things cast an ugly shadow on our government which is by the people for the people. I will support term limits as these positions are a public service and not a career. Last but not least I promise to do my best to be accessible to the community and listen to everyone. Without your voices I cannot represent you and if I cannot represent you I don’t deserve the job.[1]
