Kelsh ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota State House District 7. Kelsh and Warren D. Larson ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. They were defeated by Rick Becker and Jason Dockter in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.

Former District 7 incumbent Jon Nelson (R) is running for re-election in District 14. Former incumbent Dick Anderson (R) is running for re-election in District 6.[1][2]
