Tom Purl
Tom Purl ran for judge on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania.
2011 election
Purl ran for an open seat on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in 2011. He was inserted as the second Democratic Party candidate after Etha McDowell withdrew from the race.[1] He was defeated in the general election on November 8, receiving only 19.2% of the vote.[2]

Education
Purl earned his associate degree from Georgia Military Academy in general studies in 1974. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, European Division in business administration in 1977. He then attended the University of Southern California, European Division earning a master's in education in 1981. He earned his J.D. from Widener School of Law in 1989.[3]
Professional Career
Purl began serving in the United States Army in 1966. From 1982 until 1985 he served as a drill sergeant and a senior drill sergeant at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. After his admittance to the bar he opened a firm with a classmate from Widener. After 10 years at the firm he worked for the Philadelphia Public Defenders Association. He has worked in private practice law since then.[3]
