Campaign themes

2012

The following quotes come from Taber's campaign website:[1]

Jobs: "We need to strongly promote short-term job growth to employ out-of-work Nevadans, and young people entering the workforce. We should reassess barriers to job growth, including regulations, red tape, and support provided to new or expanding companies. We then need to make changes where people will not be hurt or our environment damaged[.]"

Education: "The Nevada economy, dependent on tourism, gaming, and construction, will not provide an adequate driver for job or economic growth. To sustain job growth in competition with other states, we need to expand our long-term economic development efforts."

Taxes: "We cannot tax or borrow ourselves into full employment and prosperity. Tax increases hinder job growth. Cutting taxes during a recession would seriously impair schools and government services. The primary path to revenue growth is job growth. We need to carefully prioritize our expenditures."

Education: "Nevada’s K-12 education is not adequately preparing our youth to complete in a rapidly changing economy. We need serious improvement at all levels. Since 40 years of increased funding has led to decreased quality, increased funding is not sufficient. We need to escalate the education reform started in the last legislative session."
