I am a candidate for Iowa House of Representatives, District 28. The District includes the cities of Adel, Van Meter and parts of West Des Moines. I am a licensed Iowa attorney that has practiced in the areas of trial, litigation and business law. I worked for over 30 years with Nyemaster Goode, Iowa's largest Iowa-based law firm, and am now Director of Legal Services and General Counsel for Delta Dental of Iowa. I was appointed by both Democratic and Republican Governors to serve on the Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Advisory Council and Public Safety Advisory Board. Members elected me Chair of both boards. I also served on the boards of the Evelyn Davis Early Learning Academy, an early learning center for communities of color, and the Wallace House Foundation, which fostered civic engagement and leadership. I served as board chair for both organizations. My service as part of the Iowa Bar Association included serving on LAWPAC, the Bar's political action committee. I also served as a member of the Iowa Supreme Court's Grievance Commission. I am married with two children.
  • I am qualified. I've represented the interests of others my entire legal career. This has included both individuals and businesses. I know what it takes to serve a client. I know when and how to fight. I know when and how to compromise.
  • Quality of life is key. We must focus on the issues that really impact the common good, such as quality of life, to retain and attract a skilled workforce, help Iowa grow and provide a sense of belonging to all Iowans.
  • I offer common sense for an uncommon time. We need more reality-based problem solving, less reality TV. More reason, less rabble rousing. More substance, less surface.
We need to aid our weakened public schools, address a persistent nursing shortage, reverse stagnant economic growth, support a neglected environment, and solve the unmet need for quality childcare.
